Norman Ollestad had an adventurous and unusual upbringing. From the age of three his father thrust him into the uncertain world of surfing and competitive downhill skiing. And, by age eleven he would be confronted with a deadly situation that would test all of the skills and strength his father had instilled in him.
In 1979 Ollestad became the lone survivor of a deadly plane crash in the San Gabriel Mountains. Tonight he will tell not only his story of survival, but the story of a father and son.
A portion of proceeds from this event will be donated to First Descents. First Descents is committed to curing young adults of the emotional effects of cancer and empowering them to regain control of their lives by experiencing whitewater kayaking and other challenging adventure sports in a safe, fun and supportive environment.
