About the instructor:
Nancy Schmidt was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Long Island in her early teens. She received a BA in Psychology and an MS.Ed in Counseling Education from Hofstra University. Her educational pursuits have always included a strong emphasis on writing and editing. Nancy enjoyed a counseling career spanning 18 years at one of the largest suburban high schools in the country where she worked with both students and adults on personal growth and crisis issues. She also taught Human Sexuality at the local community college. It was during this time that she discovered the value of writing workshops as self-awareness and therapy tools. She also pursued extensive training in mediation and designed and implemented a community conflict resolution program.
Having fallen in love with Colorado after numerous trips, Nancy and her husband, Fred, chose to move to Fort Collins in 2000. For 5 years, Fred taught at CSU and Nancy administered a Restorative Justice Program for juvenile offenders and worked as a court appointed mediator for Larimer County. She continued to use the writing workshop approach in counseling both victims and offenders.
In 2005, Nancy and Fred moved to the valley, settling in Eagle Ranch. Nancy has now begun Central Rockies Mediation and works as a conflict resolution facilitator with several county courts and for private clients.
Nancy and Fred have 2 sons, 1 daughter and 3 fabulous Grandbabies, who visit often and enrich their lives.
Nancy teaches the Memoir Writing class at Colorado Mountain College. The summer Writing Workshop has evolved to meet the requests by students to continue writing in a group setting.
