Women's Foundation of Colorado Annual Luncheon
Start: 10:30 am
End: 1:30 pm
A Place at Carlotta's Table: Education and Civil Rights - Keys to Economic Self-Sufficiency  Presented by The Club at Cordillera The Women's Foundation of Colorado Luncheon and Silent Auction at The Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort and Spa. Hosted by the WFCO Vail Valley Regional Steering Committee For information and tickets visit www.wfco.org or call 800-847-6036 The guest speaker for this highly anticipated event will be Carlotta Walls Lanier, author of A Mighty Long Way. In 1957, at age 14, Carlotta Walls LaNier and eight other students integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas and became known as one of the Little Rock Nine. Violent opposition threatened their safety and motivated president Dwight D. Eisenhower to dispatch the Army's 101st Airborne Division to protect their constitutional rights. In 1999, President Bill Clinton and members of Congress bestowed upon LaNier and her fellow students the nation's highest civilian award, the Congressional Gold Medal, for their personal sacrifice and contribution to the cause of equality. In 1998 she received an honorary doctorate from her alma mater, University of Northern Colorado, was named a "Woman of Distinction" by the Girl Scouts in 2000 and inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame in 2004. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the University of Northern Colorado.
